supported languages

Because it relies on Unicode, Zotero can import, store, and cite items of any language.

Moreover, Zotero's user interface (menu items, tabs, etc.) also can be tailored to display in any language through the use of country localizations. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the BabelZilla community, we currently support the following languages in addition to US English:

  • Arabic
  • Bulgarian
  • Catalan
  • Chinese (simplified characters)
  • Chinese (traditional characters)
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • Finnish
  • French
  • Galician
  • German
  • German (Austrian)
  • German (Swiss)
  • Hebrew
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Norwegian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Portuguese (Brazilian)
  • Romanian
  • Russian
  • Serbian
  • Slovak
  • Slovenian
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
  • Thai
  • Turkish
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese

If you are running a localized version of Firefox, Zotero will automatically use that locale's interface if we support it. For example, if you download and install the French version of Firefox, your Zotero user interface elements will automatically display in French. If Zotero does not yet support your language, its user interface will default to English.

Found some mistakes in Zotero's translations? Don't see your preferred language above? Please contribute to our translation effort at BabelZilla. The following additional languages have Zotero translations currently in progress at BabelZilla, and your assistance with these and any other languages would be greatly appreciated:

  • Afrikaans
  • Croatian
  • Estonian
  • Greek
  • Icelandic
  • Mongolian
